29th WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FOR POINTING DOGS (PRACTICAL HUNTING)

The World Championship for pointing breeds was held on Monday 1st and Wednesday 3rd of October 2007 at Villers-La-Ville and Les-Bons-Villers, Belgium. The pictures for the Opening Ceremony (held on Sunday 30th September in the grounds of Chateau La Hutte) are on the link above. The dogs were run in pairs and dogs needed to show style and pace, hunting ability, game finding, steadiness to flush and gun and retrieve shot game. The terrain was flat, open arable fields (mainly sugar beet), which was ideal for demonstrating  quartering ability. Only cock pheasants and partridge were shot as all game was wild, not reared. It rained heavily on the first day. The second and third days started misty later clearing to hazy sunshine. The wind was light and kept moving direction making conditions difficult for the dogs. However, most coped very well. The standard of dog work and dog handling was very good but it would have been nice just to see a little more game in the fields.
