About us

Meryl`s kennel prefix is "Argameols" , in addition to working the dogs ,  she is a field-trial judge and the Honorary Field-Trial Secretary of The Pointer Club .  Meryl has been involved with dogs all her life , but  became 'hooked' on pointer and setters over thirty years ago when she purchased her first Irish red setter. She has always been interested in wildlife and conservation , long before the word 'conservation'  became fashionable. Her father, Mr Ronald Barker, worked with Sir Peter Scott for many years in the 1950's and 60's counting pink - footed geese every winter on Martin Mere, Lancashire. She remembers when the whole area used to flood every winter before it was extensively drained. As a result of her father's work and influence, the area was bought by the Wildfowl Trust (as it was known then) and the nature reserve of Martin Mere was created. Martin Mere have named a hide after him in recognition of his work.

Peter`s kennel prefix is "Nantycorn" and he is also a field trial judge . Peter has worked with foxhounds, sight hounds, terriers, collies and most breeds of gun dogs. We also keep and work a small number of  Cocker Spaniels and Labrador Retrievers. We are located in North-West  England , approx. 20k North of Liverpool .

We only use our dogs for shooting, counting and trialling. However, we have supplied dogs for rough shooting, falconry and hawking. Falconry is a subject we do not claim to have an in depth knowledge of. We refer you to our links page for specialist clubs and societies on falconry and hawking.

Although we may seem biased towards Pointers and Irish Setters, these are the only pointing breeds we have in our kennels. However, we love any good dog and appreciate the different characteristics between the individual breeds.
